Your footprint
This quick carbon footprint calculator estimates your annual CO2e emissions from the things that dominate most personal footprints: how you get around, the energy your home uses, and what you eat. It runs on the same official factor sets as our specialised calculators — the UK DESNZ 2026 conversion factors and peer-reviewed dietary research — so the quick number is a real number.
TL;DR — Answer about eight questions on travel, home energy and diet; we apply official UK government emission factors and show your estimated annual footprint in tonnes of CO2e against the UK average of about 6.2 tonnes.

How is it calculated?
- Car journeys: pick a car size, enter a typical journey (a distance or a start and end point) and how often you make it — we annualise it against DESNZ 2026 per-km factors.
- Flights: great-circle distance between your airports + 8% routing uplift, priced with DESNZ 2026 haul-and-cabin factors including radiative forcing.
- Home energy: your annual kWh of electricity and gas against the DESNZ 2026 grid and natural-gas factors — typical UK values are offered if you don't have bills to hand.
- Diet: peer-reviewed per-day dietary footprints (Scarborough et al. 2014) × the days you cover.
Every calculation uses the current official factor set and records the factor behind each line — see our methodology.
Frequently asked questions
- How accurate is a quick carbon footprint estimate?
- It uses the same official emission factors as a detailed calculation, applied to fewer inputs — so each line is exact for what you told us, and the total is a good first approximation. For a fuller picture, the specialised calculators cover hotels, commuting, freight and events in more detail.
- What is the average UK carbon footprint?
- About 6.2 tonnes of CO2e per person per year (ONS-derived, approximate). Your result page shows your estimate against this benchmark.
- Do I need an account to use it?
- No. Every public BlocCarbon calculator is free and requires no sign-up; you can optionally email yourself the result.
