A long-haul business-class seat carries roughly three times the footprint of economy on the same aircraft — the official DESNZ 2026 factor is shown live below, radiative forcing included. The logic is floor space: a lie-flat seat and its aisle access occupy the cabin area of about three economy seats, so each business passenger carries that share of the fuel burn.
The practical consequence for corporate travel policies is blunt: a single London–Singapore business-class leg approaches four tonnes of CO2e, and the return doubles it — more than many employees' entire annual footprint from every other source. Cabin choice on long-haul routes is among the largest single decisions in any organisation's travel emissions.
