Event footprint

This event carbon calculator estimates the CO2e of a conference or event as the sum of its parts — attendee travel, accommodation, venue energy, catering, materials and waste — using DESNZ 2026 factors for each component. No government publishes a single 'per event' factor, so a composite of official per-component factors is the defensible approach.

TL;DR — Model your event module by module with official DESNZ 2026 factors, then divide by attendee count for a per-attendee figure you can publish.

About your event

The attendee count powers the per-attendee figure on your results.

Number of attendees

How is it calculated?

  • Attendee travel by modal split (car, rail, coach, flights) using DESNZ 2026 passenger transport factors.
  • Accommodation via per-room-night country factors; venue energy via metered kWh × the UK grid factor.
  • Catering per meal type (figures derived from The Big Climate Database and Agribalyse typical portions); materials and waste from DESNZ 2026 material-use and waste-disposal factors.
  • A whole-event attendee count divides the total into a per-attendee stat.

Every calculation runs server-side against a versioned official factor set and records the factor behind each line — see our methodology.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an official emission factor for events?
No government factor set includes one. The recognised approach — used by event-industry tools — is a composite: measure each component (travel, venue energy, catering, materials, waste) with official factors and sum them. That is what this calculator does.
